This comes in spite of, not thanks to, the Australian Liberal and Labor parties, who did everything they could to stand in the way of this passing. They put roadblock after roadblock down, including an attempted Plebiscite which turned in to a postal survey, delaying it a further 12 months at the cost of $122 million.

This is all thanks to the amazing work by Australian Marriage Equality, Australian Greens, and the Australian people in general. Without sustained pressure, we’d still be waiting, with no rainbow in sight.

Marriage in this country no longer has a meaning I wish nothing what so ever to do with, but rather it now has a meaning that I can stand behind.

Australia now has Marriage Equality. Despite all the hurdles and the best efforts of our two major political parties,  love won.
